*** Nightshade Norns ***

It was rather inevitable that I would eventually create this breed. Since the days of Creatures 1 and my first Norn breed, the Night Norns, something's itched in the back of my mind, saying "Belladonna is the key." So, finally, I present to you the Nightshade Norns. It's been a long time coming.

Somewhere in the dark regions of Albia, long before the Shee left, a primitive creature escaped from test labs and fled into the nearby jungle. The Shee were too preoccupied with their interesting new creations, the Grendels, to notice. In the safety of the jungle, the creature developed into the Night Norns that were successful in Creatures 1 and 2. This story, however, hides a darker secret. When the Shee left Albia in their gigantic starship, some of the Night Norn ancestors hid themselves rather effectively in the jungle. During the long journey, however, the creatures were eventually discovered paying with Grendels and were sent to a lonely jungle planet to live alone.

Here on this jungle world, the Deadly Nightshade plant ruled all. With no Grendels to grow up with, the terrified Norns redeveloped their instinctive fear of the green monsters, but in turn, they developed a love for the jungle. Several generations passed, with each one losing many Norns to the hazards of the jungle, not least the Deadly Nightshade toxins themselves. Eventually, the Norns became resistant to the chemicals in the plants. Some time later, a few odd Norns began to show positive traits developing as a result of the Belladonna toxin in their biochemistry... These creatures, distant cousins of the Night Norns, became known as the Nightshade Norns.

Here's a general list of the differences between Nightshade Norns and the original Norn breed:

- Colour. The Nightshade Norns are tinted purple by the poisons in their blood.

- Natural immunity to the Deadly Nightshade's toxin, Belladonna.

- Belladonna Enzyme Pathways (BEPs). These are a great many new genes that specify interesting results from the ingestion of the Belladonna toxin. Effects are given below.

- The BEPs provide a resistance (but not immunity) to many poisons:
				Cyanide
				Glycotoxin
				Geddonase
Fear, Sleep, Fever and Muscle Toxins
				Histamines (Coughing and sneezing)
				Antigens (Present on dangerous bacteria)

- The BEPs mean a small amount of Belladonna is present in newborn Nightshade Norns.

- The BEPs can help Belladonna act as a substitute (albeit a poor one) for fat, protein or starch, in extreme circumstances.

- The BEPs are assisted greatly by increased heat.

- Due to the concentrated Nightshade Juice developed in the Nightshade Jungle, the Nightshade Norns are addicted to potions and seek them out for comfort and the rush they gain from drinking them.

- The Nightshade Norns are far more at home in the jungle than anywhere else.
